A&M riders win sixth straight season-opener: DOVER, Del. -- Junior Emma Myers won a winner-take-all ride-off by one point to lift the Texas A&M equestrian team past Delaware State 7-6 at the Gambler's Choice Equestrian Center on Friday in A&M's 2010-11 season-opener.

The Aggies led 6-5 after reining but needed two re-rides to determine the winner. The Hornets claimed the first to tie the score at 6, but Myers outscored Mackenzie Truba 66.5-65.5 to seal A&M's sixth consecutive season-opening victory.

The Aggies will wrap up their road trip at 8 a.m. Saturday against Fresno State.

Maggio paces Aggies in first round at Preview: FRANKLIN, Tenn. -- Texas A&M junior Mary Michael Maggio shot an even-par 72 to help the 16th-ranked Aggies open the Mason Rudolph Fall Preview in a tie for eighth place Friday at Vanderbilt's Legends club.

Maggio is in a seven-way tie for second individually after the first of three rounds, one stroke behind Arizona State's Justine Lee.

A&M shot 15-over 303 as a team and trails leader No. 2 Southern California by 11 strokes. Arizona State is in second at 293 followed by UCLA, Alabama and Vanderbilt at 296, North Carolina and Arizona at 298 and LSU, Florida, Tennessee and A&M at 303.

A&M sophomore Katerina Ruzickova shot 74, junior Susy Grunden 77, junior Aly Smith 80 and sophomore Natalie Reeves 82.

A&M will begin the second round at 9:34 a.m. Saturday paired with Tennessee and Duke. Live hole-by-hole scoring will be available online at golfstat.com.

VOLLEYBALL

A&M to open Big 12 play today: The Texas A&M volleyball team will opens Big 12 play at 2 p.m. Saturday against Missouri at the Hearnes Center in Columbia, Mo.

A&M (11-2) improved to 4-0 at home by beating Houston Baptist on Wednesday at Reed Arena. Missouri (13-4, 0-1), which has played its last 13 matches on the road, opened Big 12 play with a loss at No. 16 Iowa State.
