More than 40,000 workers are injured each year through slips, trips and falls, accounting for 56 per cent of all major injuries reported to employers.

Clun-based ETD Training is a pioneering provider of both e-learning health & safety training, developing innovative and interactive courses for businesses and organisations.

It has launched a Slips & Trips course and a Falls course for employers which need to educate workers about workplace risks and help reduce the number of injuries suffered by staff.

Head of business development, Bruce Gutteridge, said there were 41 fatalities reported to the Health & Safety Executive as a result of a slip, trip or fall in 2010/2011.

?Businesses have a legal requirement to provide training for staff on the risks of injuries and how they can be reduced. There is a very serious human cost associated with these types of accidents, many of which are preventable.

?There is also a financial effect ? they cost employers more than ?512 million a year in lost production and staff time off as well as costing the health service ?133m per year.

?Our Slips and Trips course helps employers identify the most common factors contributing to a slip or a trip in the workplace and provides training to limit the risks. They are interactive and engaging for the employee being trained with video presentations, interactive games and quizzes helping employers to protect their workforce from injury and their business from potential compensation claims.?

All businesses employing staff who work at height are also legally required to provide training to help prevent and reduce the risk of falls under the Work at Height Regulations.

Mr Gutteridge added: ?These regulations don?t just apply to construction sites, it?s also required where staff need to use a step-ladder to reach files or stack shelves.?

From selecting the right equipment to ensuring employees are aware of the risks, the Falls course spells out employers? responsibilities and covers the relevant law.

Like ETD Training?s other courses, including manual handling and fire safety, the CPD Certification Service-accredited training can be completed online and progress can be monitored by employers. Alternatively large organisations with their own Learning Management System can benefit from all the courses in Scorm format.
