9:00 PM: Louisiana Tech turning down an invite from the Independence Bowl saved California $300,000 in buyout money in hiring new football coach Sonny Dykes.

8:45 PM: USC linebacker Tony Burnett tweeted how he wasn't thrilled to be going to El Paso for the Sun Bowl: "If you never seen a real life giant tumbleweed get ready." Burnett later tweeted an apology.

8:30 PM: Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh says of an NFL proposal to eliminate kickoffs: "That's ridiculous, that's crazy .... No man. I'm not with that at all."
