Ex-president Bush rallies, out of intensive care

WASHINGTON: Former US president George H.W. Bush is on the mend and has been released from intensive care, a spokesman said Saturday.

"President Bush's condition has improved, so he has been moved today from the intensive care unit to a regular patient room at The Methodist Hospital to continue his recovery," spokesman Jim McGrath said.

"The Bushes thank everyone for their prayers and good wishes."

Earlier in the week, McGrath said Bush had taken a turn for the worse, with a "series of setbacks" sending the 88-year-old to the intensive care unit at the Houston, Texas hospital with a "stubborn fever."

Bush, the oldest surviving former US president, was first admitted to the hospital on November 7 for bronchitis treatment and released on November 19. But he was readmitted four days later after his cough flared up again.

Doctors had hoped to have the elder statesman home for Christmas, but he was instead forced to spend the holiday in the hospital, where he was joined by his wife Barbara, son Neil and grandson Pierce.

Bush, a Republican, served just a single term in the White House from 1989 to 1993, despite sending US troops to victory in Iraq in the first Gulf War and expelling Saddam Hussein's forces from Kuwait.

The decorated World War II veteran served in a number of top government posts, including as vice president to Ronald Reagan, director of the Central Intelligence Agency and US ambassador to the United Nations.

He was also chief of the US Liaison Office in China at a time Washington had official ties with Beijing's foe Taipei. This made Bush the unofficial US ambassador to Beijing.

His son George W. Bush served two terms as president and also went to war with Iraq, this time sending US-led troops all the way to Baghdad to overthrow Saddam, whom he had wrongly accused of hoarding weapons of mass destruction.

DC police investigating 'Meet the Press' incident

(AP) ? District of Columbia police say they are investigating an incident in which NBC News reporter David Gregory displayed what he described as a high-capacity ammunition magazine on "Meet the Press."

Police spokesman Tisha Gant said Wednesday the department is investigating whether Gregory may have violated D.C. firearms laws that ban the possession of high-capacity magazines. She declined to comment further.

While interviewing National Rifle Association CEO Wayne LaPierre on Sunday's program, Gregory held an object, apparently as a prop to make a point, and said it was a magazine that could hold 30 rounds.

High-capacity ammunition magazines are banned in the District of Columbia, regardless of whether they're attached to a firearm. "Meet the Press" is generally taped in Washington.

An email seeking comment from NBC was not immediately returned.

Ability to metabolize tamoxifen affects breast cancer outcomes

Dec. 26, 2012 ? For nearly a decade, breast cancer researchers studying the hormone therapy tamoxifen have been divided as to whether genetic differences in a liver enzyme affect the drug's effectiveness and the likelihood breast cancer will recur. A new study by researchers from the Mayo Clinic Cancer Center and the Austrian Breast and Colorectal Cancer Study Group provides evidence that genetic differences in the enzyme CYP2D6 play a key role in how well tamoxifen works.

"Our findings confirm that, in early breast cancer treated with tamoxifen, genetic alterations in CYP2D6 lead to a higher likelihood of recurrence and death," says Mayo Clinic oncologist Matthew Goetz, M.D., lead author of the study in the journal Clinical Cancer Research.

In the clinical trial, Dr. Goetz and his colleagues studied the rates of cancer recurrence and death in two groups: postmenopausal women with primary estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer who received tamoxifen for five years and those who received tamoxifen for two years followed by the aromatase inhibitor anastrozole for three years. Anastrozole is a breast cancer drug whose metabolism does not require the CYP2D6 enzyme.

The study showed that women who were born with genetic alterations of CYP2D6 that abolish the enzyme's critical metabolizing activity and who took tamoxifen for five years had recurrence of breast cancer, or died at a rate 2.5 times higher than women with normal CYP2D6 enzyme activity. Women with intermediate levels of the CYP2D6 enzyme had rates of recurrence or death 1.7 times higher than women with normal CYP2D6 activity. Importantly, Dr. Goetz notes, that genetic alterations in CYP2D6 did not affect the likelihood of recurrence or death in women who switched to anastrozole after two years of tamoxifen.

"Switching from tamoxifen to an aromatase inhibitor may be one reason for the discrepant studies surrounding CYP2D6 and tamoxifen -- as information about whether a patient took an aromatase inhibitor after tamoxifen was not available in most of the prior studies," says senior author James Ingle, M.D., of Mayo Clinic, an expert on hormone therapies for breast cancer.

A blood test can determine whether a woman has alterations in CYP2D6 and predict how efficiently her body will convert tamoxifen to endoxifen. Approximately 5 to 7 percent of European and North American populations are considered poor metabolizers of tamoxifen.

"The results of this successful high-level international research collaboration are an important step forward in our quest to individualize breast cancer treatment and provide tailored care to women with breast cancer," says Michael Gnant, M.D., professor of surgery at the Medical University of Vienna and president of the Austrian study group.

So what should a woman do if she is unable to effectively metabolize tamoxifen into its most active form? Dr. Goetz believes that the current recommendation of switching from tamoxifen to an aromatase inhibitor is likely to result in the greatest benefit in women with decreased CYP2D6 metabolism. For CYP2D6 poor metabolizers, avoiding tamoxifen altogether and starting out with an aromatase inhibitor may be the best approach, he says.

Dr. Goetz's group is working with the National Cancer Institute to develop endoxifen as an alternative to tamoxifen. If women can be given endoxifen, the active part of tamoxifen, it won't matter how tamoxifen gets metabolized, he says.

The study is partially funded by the National Institutes of Health, co-authors include Vera Suman, Ph.D.; Tanya Hoskin; Mary Kuffel; Stephanie Safgren; Carol Reynolds, M.D.; Matthew Ames, Ph.D.; and Richard Weinshilboum, M.D., all of Mayo Clinic; Martin Filipits, Ph.D.; Raimund Jakesz and Margaretha Rudas of the Medical University of Vienna; Richard Greil and Otto Dietze of Paracelsus Medical University, Salzburg, Austria; and Alois Lange and Felix Offner of Medical Hospital Feldkirch, Austria.

Write Your Life: Top Blog Posts of 2012

At Write Your Life, we enjoy sharing tips and information to help you get smart about becoming a self-published author. Throughout 2012, our team of bloggers has shared valuable expertise and knowledge to help you succeed. Here, we share a few of our top picks from the year.?

Many authors do all their writing first and think that they can wait to work on plans and goals later, when the book is ready to be released. But in doing that, they?re starting out behind.?Here are five questions to consider before writing and publishing your book.

Stop searching for the Holy Grail of all writing instruction materials and instead build your network of academic pros, literary pros, and colleagues to hone your craft.

Time and patience and inspiration allow great authors to achieve eloquent and emotional introductions. With a little effort, you, too, can craft a strong opening line.

Writers need to write. The learning curve can be tough. Demanding. But it?s important to your craft. If you want to get better, here are some ways to improve.?

Most often, new authors consider the dollar cost of book production as an expense rather than an investment. The distinction, as I see it, is that an investment suggests an anticipated return while an expense may not. And so it should be with your book project.

The time to begin making connections and building relationships for marketing is BEFORE your book is complete. Small, consistent steps make it easy.

Taking the time at the start of your writing journey to consider how you might wrap up your story will become one of the biggest favors you?ve ever done for yourself.

A professional edit is an essential component of a well-produced book. So why do so many authors, particularly self-published authors, skip this vital step? It could be that they do not know what to look for when choosing an editor.

Many think the hardest part of publishing a book is writing it, but that?s the easiest part for most authors. Marketing is equally important. Here are some ideas for generating special market sales.

For strategic authors, identifying an ideal reader ? a target audience, as it's called in marketing ? is an unvoidable and absolutely necessary first step in creating a book that will appeal to a niche market.

If you?re looking to get a commercial or academic publisher, here are the top five things you should include in your book proposal.?

The power of a dollar can go quite far with your book marketing budget. As the co-author of How to Market Your Book For Free, I have learned to use various strategies to market my books while on a budget, through healthy self-competition, for a substantial return on my investment.?

Report: Iran plans Hormuz Strait naval maneuvers

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) ? Iran is planning naval maneuvers in international waters near strategic Strait of Hormuz, where one-fifth of world oil supply passes, the official IRNA news agency reported Tuesday.

The report quoted Iran's navy chief, Adm. Habibollah Sayyari, as saying the maneuvers will begin Friday from the Strait of Hormuz to the northern part of Indian Ocean in an area of about 1 million square kilometers (400,000 square miles).

Iran in the past threatened to close the strait over Western sanctions aimed at its suspect nuclear program but has not repeated the threat lately.

Sayyari said Iran will test-fire missiles and deploy vessels and submarines during the six-day war games.

The semi-official Fars news agency reported that navy of the powerful Revolutionary Guards began a limited naval drill Tuesday in central part of the Persian Gulf.

It said the four-day maneuver is meant to test and assess its forces and includes missile firing, the report said.

Iran regularly holds military exercises to test and upgrade its military equipment as well as to boost its regional military standing.

The latest drills come as the West increases its pressure over Iran's nuclear program. The West suspects Iran may be aiming to produce nuclear weapons.

Iran denies the charge, insisting its nuclear activities have peaceful purposes like power generation and cancer treatment.

MADRID (AP) ? Rafael Nadal's return to competition has been delayed by a stomach virus.

The Spaniard was scheduled to play in an exhibition tournament in Abu Dhabi on Thursday after missing seven months because of tendinitis in his left knee. But he said on his Facebook page Tuesday that his doctors ordered him to pull out when he was running a fever, telling him his body needed rest.

"My rehab has gone well, my knee feels good and I was looking forward to competing," he said.

The 11-time Grand Slam champion hasn't played since June, when he lost to 100th-ranked Lukas Rosol in the second round at Wimbledon.

The injury prevented Nadal from defending his Olympic singles gold at the Olympics in London, where he was supposed to be Spain's flag bearer at the opening ceremony. He also had to pull out of the U.S. Open and Spain's Davis Cup final against the Czech Republic, which his teammates lost without him.

Top-ranked Novak Djokovic and No. 3 Andy Murray were also scheduled to play at Abu Dhabi.

3 Reasons Google Won't Offer Car Insurance Comparisons in the ...

The following is a guest column written by Rory Joyce from CoverHound.

Last week Google Advisor made its long-awaited debut in the car insurance vertical ? in the UK. Given Google?s 2011 acquisition of BeatThatQuote.com, a UK comparison site, for 37.7 million pounds ($ 61.5 million US), it comes as little surprise that the company chose to enter the UK ahead of other markets. While some might suspect Google?s foray into the UK market is merely a trial balloon, and that an entrance into the US market is inevitable, I certainly wouldn?t hold my breath.

Here are three reasons Google will not be offering an insurance comparison product anytime soon in the US market:

1) High Opportunity Cost

Finance and insurance is the number one revenue ? generating advertising vertical for Google, totaling $ 4 billion in 2011. While some of that $ 4 billion is made up of products like health insurance, life insurance and credit cards, the largest segment within the vertical is undoubtedly car insurance. The top 3 advertisers in the vertical as a whole are US carriers ? State Farm, Progressive and Geico ? spending a combined sum of $ 110 million in 2011.

The keyword landscape for the car insurance vertical is relatively dense. A vast majority of searches occur across 10-20 generic terms (ie ? ?car insurance,? ?auto insurance,? ?cheap auto insurance,? ?auto insurance quotes,? etc). This is an important point because it helps explain the relatively high market CPC of car insurance keywords versus other verticals. All of the major advertisers are in the auction for a large majority of searches, resulting in higher prices. The top spot for head term searches can reach CPCs well over $ 40. The overall average revenue/click for Google is probably somewhere around $ 30. Having run run similar experiments with carrier click listing ads using SEM traffic, I can confidently assume that the click velocity (clicks per clicker) is around 1.5. So the average revenue per searcher who clicks is probably somewhere around $ 45 for Google.

Now, let?s speculate on Google?s potential revenues from advertisers in a comparison environment. Carriers? marketing allowable is approximately $ 250 per new policy. When structuring pay-for-performance pricing deep in the funnel (or on a sold-policy basis), carriers are unlikely to stray from those fundamentals. In a fluid marketplace higher in the funnel (i.e.? Adwords PPC), they very often are managing to a marginal cost per policy that far exceeds even $ 500 (see $ 40 CPCs). While it may seem like irrational behavior, there are two reasons they are able to get away with this:

a) They are managing to an overall average cost per policy, meaning all direct response marketing channels benefit from ?free,? or unattributable sales. With mega-brands like Geico, this can be a huge factor.

b) There are pressures to meet sales goals at all costs. Google presents the highest intent of any marketing channel available to insurance marketers. If marketers need to move the needle in a hurry, this is where they spend.

Regardless of how Google actually structures the pricing, the conversion point will be much more efficient for the consumer since they will be armed with rates and thus there will be less conversion velocity for Google. The net-net here is a much more efficient marketplace, and one where Google can expect average revenue to be about $ 250 per sold policy.

How does this match up against the $ 45 unit revenue they would significantly cannibalize? The most optimized and competitive carriers can convert as high as 10% of clicks into sales. Since Google would be presenting multiple policies we can expect that in a fully optimized state, they may see 50% higher conversion and thus 15% of clicks into sales. Here is a summary of the math:

With the Advisor product, in an optimized state, Google will make about $ 37.50 ($ 250 x .15) per clicker. Each cannibalized lead will thus cost Google $ 7.50 of unit revenue ($ 45 ? $ 37.50). Given the dearth of compelling comparison options in insurance (that can afford AdWords), consumers would definitely be intrigued and so one can assume the penetration/cannibalization would be significant.

Of course there are other impacts to consider: How would this affect competition and average revenue for non-cannibalized clicks? Will responders to Advisor be incremental and therefore have zero opportunity cost?

2) Advisor Has Poor Traction in Other Verticals

Over the past couple of years, Google has rolled out its Advisor product in several verticals including: personal banking, mortgage, and flight search.

We know that at least mortgage didn?t work out very well. Rolled out in early 2011, it was not even a year before Google apparently shut the service down in January of 2012.

I personally don?t have a good grasp on the Mortgage vertical so I had a chat with a high-ranking executive at a leading mortgage site, an active AdWords advertiser. In talking to him it became clear that there were actually quite a bit of similarities between mortgage and insurance as it relates to Google including:

  1. Both industries are highly regulated in the US, at the state level.
  2. Both verticals are competitive and lucrative. CPCs in mortgage can exceed $ 40.
  3. Like insurance, Google tested Advisor in the UK market first.

Hoping he could serve as my crystal ball for insurance, I asked, ?So why did Advisor for Mortgage fail?? His response was, ?The chief issue was that the opportunity cost was unsustainably high. Google needed to be as or more efficient than direct marketers who had been doing this for years. They underestimated this learning curve and ultimately couldn?t sustain the lost revenue as a result of click cannibalization.?

Google better be sure it has a good understanding of the US insurance market before entering, or else history will repeat itself, which brings me to my next point?

3) They Don?t Yet Have Expertise

Let?s quickly review some key differences between the UK and US insurance markets:

  1. Approximately 80% of car insurance is purchased through comparison sites in the UK vs under 5% in the US.
  2. There is one very business-friendly pricing regulatory body in the UK versus state-level, sometimes aggressive, regulation in the US.
  3. The UK is an efficient market for consumers, the US is not. This means margins are tighter for UK advertisers, as evidenced by the fact that CPCs in the UK are about a third of what they are in the US.

As you can see, these markets are completely different animals. Despite the seemingly low barriers for entry in the UK, Google still felt compelled to acquire BeatThatQuote to better understand the market. Yet, it still took them a year and a half post acquisition before they launched Advisor.

I spoke with an executive at a top-tier UK insurance comparison site earlier this week about Google?s entry. He mentioned that Google wanted to acquire a UK entity primarily for its general knowledge of the market, technology, and infrastructure (API integrations). He said, ?Given [Google?s] objectives, it didn?t make sense for them to acquire a top tier site (ie ? gocompare, comparethemarket, moneysupermarket, confused) so they acquired BeatThatQuote, which was unknown to most consumers but had the infrastructure in place for Google to test the market effectively.?

It?s very unlikely BeatThatQuote will be of much use for the US market. Google will need to build its product from the ground up. Beyond accruing the knowledge of a very complex, and nuanced market, they will need to acquire or build out the infrastructure. In the US there are no public rate APIs for insurance carriers; very few insurance comparison sites actually publish instant, accurate, real-time rates. Google will need to understand and navigate its way to the rates (though it?s not impossible). It will take some time to get carriers comfortable and then of course build out the technology. Insurance carriers, like most financial service companies, can be painfully slow.

Conclusion

I do believe Google will do something with insurance at some point in the US. Of the various challenges the company currently faces, I believe the high opportunity cost is the toughest to overcome. However, the market will shift. As true insurance comparison options continue to mature, consumers will be searching exclusively for comparison sites (see travel), and carriers will no longer be able to effectively compete at the scale they are now ? driving down the market for CPCs and thus lowering the opportunity cost.

This opportunity cost is much lower however for other search engines where average car insurance CPC?s are lower. If I am Microsoft or Yahoo, I am seriously considering using my valuable real estate to promote something worthwhile in insurance. There is currently a big void for consumers as it relates to shopping for insurance. A rival search engine can instantly differentiate themselves from Google overnight in one of the biggest verticals. This may be one of their best opportunities to regain some market share.

Network Marketing Home Based Business

Successful communication with MLM business prospects is more than just what you say. While training thousands of people in my MLM downline I discovered what prospects respond to positively. This article describes what works best. Ever wonder what you look like from someone else's perspective? It really is an interesting thing to ponder. Several times when I have been doing some MLM training, specifically communication training, with someone in my network marketing business, I've had to show them with a mirror what their face looks like. The very second they see themselves in the mirror they immediately CHANGE THEIR FACIAL EXPRESSION. What do they change it to? The way they think they look to their MLM business prospects. Very often how they look versus how they think they look is very different. If you're one of those who love to people watch, the funniest people-watching situation is when you can sit near a mirror and watch people...look at themselves. It certainly would have made a great Candid Camera skit. The reason I bring this up is that there is a group of characteristics an MLM business professional must have in order to truly have success in speaking with prospects. I call these characteristics the 10 Communication Qualities. Once you're fully knowledgeable about these qualities and have the proper and correct MLM training to learn them, you will be amazed at how much smoother conversations will go with your prospects. The third quality on my list is to "have a sincere friendly facial expression." This third quality means when you're talking with your prospect, have comfortable eye contact with a sincere, friendly facial expression. If you are familiar with the other Communication Qualities, this should make completely logical sense to you. See, if you are truly interested in your prospect (1st quality) and you're not distracted by anything in the environment (2nd quality) this also includes not being distracted by what's going on INSIDE OF YOU - therefore because you are just simply interested in your prospect you can't help but have a sincere friendly facial expression. Oh sure, as your prospect talks your facial expression will change slightly based on what they're telling you - but it will always revert back to SINCERE and FRIENDLY. What stops a person from having this desired facial expression? The number one reason is fear. As the distributor talks with their prospect they're fearful of how the prospect will react to their MLM business...so their face (if they were to look in a mirror) would have the look of fear or concern. This concerned or worried look is describing what is going on in their head! Your facial expression expresses what you're thinking. The second thing that stops a person from having this desired facial expression is that they've been given some lame advice about mirroring and matching every move their prospect makes. Or, the advice that you should always maintain eye contact and they take this to an extreme and end up boring holes through their prospect which intimidates the prospect. And I should add that you should keep a friendly facial expression even when you're on the phone, calling prospects. Even though they can't see you, your expression carries through your voice and the words you say. Just be comfortable with your prospect and maintain comfortable eye contact with a sincere, friendly facial expression.

  3. QUESTION:
I am doing home based e-commerce network marketing business in india for a hong kong based company.?
I get weekly commissions from Hong Kong in US Dollars which are credited into my trading account(not bank account) with company. I access this trading account and convert my accumulated us dollar into online electronic cards which is used for internet payment.. Suppose I have 1000 us dollars in my trading account at Hong Kong then I convert it into virtual Electronic Card of 1000 US Dollar. Now when I do business in india by selling any product to customer I collect cash from customer and make the payment online for the product using this Online Electronic Card. So my commission in US Dollar gets converted into CASH (Indian Rupees). Is this system of getting commission legal in India ? Do I need to pay any tax(Income Tax or Sales Tax / Vat / Service Tax) on this commission in India ? If I need to pay tax then what is the process and what are the documents required as proof of income ?

    • ANSWER:
Without a doubt you will have to pay sometime as soon as the Indian Tax inspector get hold of you. If you are in the Internet Business and if you can do the same job somewhere else, it would be much better to do the job in different countries for several a month at a time to avoid such hassle! But you should really consult tax experts in your country you are doing business.

Sandy Hook shooting: Town in mourning inundated with gifts, money

Money, toys, food and other gifts have poured in from around the world as Newtown, Conn. mourns the loss of 20 children and six school employees at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

"She said, 'I'm paying for the next $500 of food that goes out your door,'" Leone said. "About a half hour later another gentleman called, I think from the West Coast, and he did the same thing for $2,000."

Money, toys, food and other gifts have poured in from around the world as Newtown mourns the loss of 20 children and six school employees at Sandy Hook Elementary School a little over a week ago. The 20-year-old shooter, Adam Lanza, killed his mother before attacking the school then killing himself. Police don't know what set off the massacre.

Saturday, all the town's children were invited to the Edmond Town Hall in Newtown to choose from among hundreds of toys donated by individuals, organizations and toy stores ? and funeral services for victims continued.

The giving is a way for people beyond Newtown to deal with their own grief over the shooting.

"It's their way if grieving," said Bobbi Veach, who was fielding donations at the town hall building. "They say, 'I feel so bad, I just want to do something to reach out.' That's why we accommodate everybody we can."

Since Sandy Hook shooting, jitters in other schools ? some for good reason

The basement of the building resembled a toy store, with piles of stuffed penguins, Barbie dolls, board games, soccer balls and other fun gifts. All the toys were inspected and examined by bomb-sniffing dogs before being sorted and put on card tables. The children could choose whatever they wanted.

"But we're not checking IDs at the door," said Tom Mahoney, the building administrator, who's in charge of handling gifts. "If there is a child from another town who comes in need of a toy, we're not going to turn them away."

The United Way of Western Connecticut said the official fund for donations had $2.6 million in it Saturday morning. Others sent envelopes stuffed with cash to pay for coffee at the general store, and a shipment of cupcakes arrived from a gourmet bakery in Beverly Hills, Calif.

The Postal Service reported a six-fold increase in mail in town and set up a unique post office box to handle it. The parcels come decorated with rainbows and hearts drawn by school children.

Some letters arrive in packs of 26 identical envelopes ? one for each family of the children and staff killed or addressed to the "First Responders" or just "The People of Newtown." One card arrived from Georgia addressed to "The families of 6 amazing women and 20 beloved angels." Many contain checks.

"This is just the proof of the love that's in this country," said Postmaster Cathy Zieff.

The funerals for the victims were wrapping up after a wrenching week of farewells in Newtown. Services were scheduled Saturday in Connecticut for Josephine Gay, 7, and Ana Marquez-Greene, 6. A service was also planned in Utah for 6-year-old Emilie Parker.

PFT: Tebow upset he never started this season

RexandTebowReuters

The day after multiple reports emerged that Jets quarterback Tim Tebow tapped out of the Wildcat package because he wasn?t picked to be the starter in Week 16, the effort continues to put the toothpaste back in the tube.

On Sunday, Tebow was asked why he didn?t appear in the alternative offense, which instead saw receiver Jeremy Kerley taking snaps.? ?It just kind of happens,? Tebow said.

On Monday, after multiple sources said that Tebow had specifically asked for it to happen after he was told he wouldn?t be starting, Tebow didn?t address the question of whether he had asked to be left out of the Wildcat package in an interview with ESPN?s Adam Schefter.

Now, coach Rex Ryan has tackled the topic while evading the one key piece of information in which everyone is interested.? According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, Ryan chose not to share the details of his communications with Tebow.

And all that that implies.

?I?ve been transparent and all that stuff without question, but I?m not going to give you a private conversation that I would have with a player,? Ryan said in a conference call with reporters.? ?That?s between him and I.? If he wants to share whatever the conversation is ? Tim or anybody else ? that?s up to him.?

Ryan is treading on delicate ground, given that he and Tebow are both represented by the same agent, CAA?s Jimmy Sexton.? As a result, Ryan will say nothing publicly that damages Tebow?s carefully-cultivated team-first-team-only-thank-you-sir-may-I-have-another fa?ade.

?If I would have asked Tim to play in anything,? Ryan said.? ?Tim would have gone into the game and done that.?

Right.? If Ryan would have asked.? But that overlooks the question of whether Tebow had asked Ryan not to ask.

While some have suggested (including Peter King, in the video appearing below) that Tebow?s position was understandable given the manner in which he has been jerked around by the Jets, Tebow has tried for years to make us think that he?s the kind of guy who never would make such a request due to frustration regarding his role.? And for the Tebow skeptics out there who believe that much of who he is and what he is has been carefully orchestrated and manipulated, Sunday?s reports reflect the most significant and tangible proof that there?s a man behind the curtain who is far more flawed and far more human than the image that Tebow?s camp has been selling.

At this point, Tebow?s best move would be to admit it.

The Daily Grind: What gaming-related choice would you have ...

If you're reading this, it's proof that the end of the Mayan calendar did not result in the end of civilization and the world. Shocking, really. But if it had ended yesterday, there are a few things that I really would have been sad about. I can just see myself looking at the rising waves of burning destruction and thinking that now I'd really never get a chance to play WildStar. And I'd be dead, but priorities.

So let's turn this over to you, dear readers. If the world had ended, as everything crumbled to ash, what gaming-related thing would you have regretted? Would you have wished that you had played Tabula Rasa when you had the chance? That you had specced for tanking instead of damage in Star Wars: The Old Republic? That you had waited until The Secret World was buy-to-play before picking up a copy? Or just that you hadn't tried to talk to your guild by voice chat while you were a bit tipsy?

Every morning, the Massively bloggers probe the minds of their readers with deep, thought-provoking questions about that most serious of topics: massively online gaming. We crave your opinions, so grab your caffeinated beverage of choice and chime in on today's Daily Grind!

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup molasses

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Then, in a shallow bowl, place 1/2 cup sugar; set aside for a couple of minutes.
  2. With an electric mixer, beat butter and remaining cup of sugar until combined. Beat in egg and then molasses until combined. Reduce speed to low and then gradually mix in dry ingredients, just until a dough forms.
  3. Pinch off and roll dough into balls, each equal to 1 tablespoon. Roll balls in reserve sugar to coat.
  4. Arrange balls on baking sheets, about 3 inches apart. Bake, one sheet at a time, until edges of cookies are just firm, 10 to 15 minutes (cookies can be baked two sheets at a time, but they will not crackle uniformly). Cool 1 minute on baking sheets; transfer to racks to cool completely.

Although it is chewy at the center but then the edges are deliciously crispy. It is a unique and tasty combination that you can?t wait to have a second bite. You can store this in an airtight container for up to four days. Finish the presentation with red and gold lace to fit the season. This can be a great gift idea for your friends and loved ones.

Oman holds first municipal elections

MUSCAT, Oman (AP) ? Oman says more than 1,400 candidates are competing in the Gulf nation's first municipal elections, a concession following Arab Spring-linked unrest.

Oman has seen sporadic protests demanding more job opportunities and a greater public voice in the tightly run sultanate.

The official Omani News Agency says the candidates, including 46 women, are vying Saturday for 192 seats on local councils that have no direct powers but will serve in an advisory role.

Gulf Arab leaders have managed to ride out the region's upheavals, but have promised some limited reforms and offered financial incentives such as expanding state jobs.

Strategic Oman shares control of the Strait of Hormuz with Iran. The narrow waterway at the mouth of the Persian Gulf is the route for one-fifth of the world's crude oil.

Xenical Club New You Lose Weight Rewards

Well, there is really no need to worry about your goal to lose weight because we have the perfect solution for you! Here are some healthy food alternatives that you would want to serve for this year?s Noche Buena:
Low-fat healthy food alternative

Food: Pancit Canton
Healthy Food Alternative: Tomato-based Pasta Dish

We have all heard of the saying, ?Pancit canton for long life!? Many like pancit canton because of its various tasty garnishings, and salty and savory taste. However, you may want to reconsider serving this dish since it could have a lot of calories due to having multiple ingredients and oily preparation. If you want a healthier alternative, you could try serving a tomato-based pasta dish like the good old spaghetti. If you want something new, you could also serve Pasta Puttanesca that is low in fat yet rich in Vitamin A.

Click here for the low-calorie Pasta Puttanesca recipe.

Food: Slow-roasted Pork or Lechon
Healthy Food Alternative: Honey Ham

Some would say that a party or any type of celebration is not complete without lechon. Who would say no to the lechon?s tender meat and crunchy skin? The answer is most likely those people who are watching their cholesterol levels. So, if you want to serve something healthier, you could serve honey ham instead. It has less fat and pork skin compared to lechon. What?s good about ham is that it has several healthy and tasty alternatives like lean and low-fat hams, chicken hams, and also turkey hams.

Food: Lumpiang Shanghai
Healthy Food Alternative: Fresh Spring Rolls

Lumpiang shanghai could be considered as a staple dish in almost any celebration. People like this dish due to its crunchy texture and rich meaty flavor. But little did you know this popular Chinese dish is actually high in fat and cholesterol. Thank goodness our Vietnamese Fresh Spring Rolls is here to the rescue! Each spring roll is packed with vegetables and other low-fat ingredients such as shrimps.

Click here for a healthy Vietnamese Fresh Spring Rolls.

Low-calorie healthy food alternativeFood: Hot Chocolate
Healthy Food Alternative: Chai Tea Latte

Hot chocolate is one of the most sought after comfort food thanks to the cold weather brought by the season. However, hot chocolate drinks (especially those that are not made from pure chocolate) have high sugar levels that are not really good for someone who is watching his or her sugar levels. If you want delicious yet healthy drinks, you could serve chai tea latte. It has lesser calories compared to a hot chocolate drink. The soothing and calming effect of tea would also help increase your awareness and boost your energy, just what you need this busy holiday season.

Most anticipated tech products for 2013

Xbox 720Right now you?re probably pretty happy with the available gadgets on the market. Phones can do almost anything, cars nearly drive themselves and video games have never looked more fantastic.

How much better can it get?

Well, that?s a matter of opinion. If you?re still writing letters on paper with a #2 pencil, you probably don?t care. (Also, you?re awesome if you still do that. It?s a dying art.)?However, if you?ve found this story, chances are you want to know what cool things you might be playing with next year. Many of these are based purely on speculation, but that?s part of the fun.

And so begins your Christmas list for 2013:

1. Xbox 720
The latest tech reports on Microsoft?s next console ??tentatively named the Xbox 720 or Xbox Loop ???state the chipset has already been in production and game developers are working hard on new titles. The machine should be on shelves in time for Christmas, 2013.

Rumors that the new Xbox will simply be an update to the existing 360 are bunk, same to the theory that it will run on Windows. What is likely is that the system will launch at a cheaper price point than the 360. This could mean a new Microsoft console for under $300. You can bet the new console will be smaller than its predecessor and that Microsoft will continue to push the Kinect peripheral. Despite the company?s interest in casual and motion-based games, expect the next Xbox to continue Microsoft?s appeal to hardcore gamers.

Playstation 42. PlayStation 4
The history of video game consoles is marked by generations. As these things go, this has been a long generation. Nintendo got out ahead with this year?s release of the Wii U, but it?s still unclear how their machine will stack up against the next generation of consoles coming from Sony and Microsoft.

Sony is known for standing behind its consoles ? you can still buy a Playstation 2 off the shelf today and that thing is over a decade old.

They?re not saying much about the next console, but speculation is understandably rampant. Industry analyst Michael Pachter said he doubts Sony wants to launch behind Microsoft again, which supports the theory of a 2013 launch for Sony?s next console. If the PlayStation 2 is any indication, the PlayStation 3 will likely remain a hit for the company for years after their new console is released.

Blackberry 103. Blackberry 10
Much to the dismay of Blackberry fans, the promised 2012 release never happened. This earned them a place on our 2012 Technology Flops piece.

Research in Motion (RIM), the maker of the BlackBerry smartphone, plans to unveil the new BlackBerry 10 operating system in January. That is (hopefully) good news for a company that recently sacked hundreds of employees and lost contracts with the US government over security and reliability issues with RIM products.

RIM has fallen from one of the largest smartphone makers in the world to trailing behind Apple and Android products. The Blackberry 10 is a make or break product for the company. So far, early reports are positive. The new browser is allegedly faster than anything on the market and a QWERTY keyboard version is said to be available soon after the touch screen version is launched.

Microsoft Surface Pro4. Microsoft Surface Pro
The Surface RT is already for sale as a tablet/notebook, but the Surface Pro will have a full version of Windows 8 and will support any Windows 7 apps. It will be packed with an Intel Core 15 processor and a display that supports 10-point multi-touch and stylus input.

The result could be a terrific laptop and tablet all in one package that could be powerful enough to warrant the $900 price point.
Expect to see these roll out in January.

Ipad 45. iPad 5
You don?t think Apple is done building their Death Star, do you?

In another move sure to separate consumers from their cash, the iPad 5 will likely be ready for Christmas, 2013 at the latest. Expect it to share some touch screen technology from the iPad Mini to make it lighter and slimmer.

While the iPad Mini is selling well and it feels like the iPad 4 was released 10 minutes ago, it is likely that Apple will look to solidify their reign of the tablet market in the face of Microsoft?s Surface by pushing the iPad 5. Meanwhile, an iPhone 5S is probably in the works, if not a full-blown iPhone 6.

Amazon6. Amazon Phone
Amazon answered the tablet call with its fleet of Kindles, now it?s looking to the smartphone world.

In line with their Kindle philosophy, Amazon?s phone will likely be heavy on software integration and light on bleeding edge hardware. Amazon users will want to stay in their ecosystem of Amazon?s Appstore, Amazon MP3, Amazon Cloud Player and Kindle books.

This phone will do all of those things; likely for a low price since the company will offset hardware costs with the money consumers will spend on their stuff. Amazon will leverage its octopus-like reach into every area of entertainment to make this phone a logical choice for people caught in their tentacles.
You could see these by summer, 2013.

Augmented reality glasses7. Augmented reality glasses
These sci-fi specs are finally getting closer to reality; as close as mid-2013, according to some tech experts. Google and Vuzix are working on models that are similar to headsets, projecting an image in front of the wearer?s eye.

Not surprisingly, the unit will connect to your phone via Bluetooth, displaying e-mail, texts, directions, stock quotes or anything else you can?t seem to live without for 10 seconds.

Lifebook8. Fujitsu Lifebook 2013
The Fujitsu Lifebook 2013 is a concept device designed by Prashant Chandra. It?s the result of a competition the company ran in 2011. The Transformer of tech gadgets, the Lifebook 2013 features a digital camera, smart-phone and a tablet ??all of which can be detached and used individually. Each component has its own CPU and could run on the same operating system. No one is sure if Fujitsu will make these in 2013, but a lot of people are hoping so.

Folding car9. MIT?s folding car ? The Hiroko
The Massachusetts Institution of Technology (MIT) is expected to release the Hiroko in Europe and select American markets in 2013. The car is able to ?fold up,? which allows three of them to occupy a typical parking space.

The Hiroko?s front windshield is also the car door, which lets you park the car facing the sidewalk and step right into the pedestrian space. Its ?robot wheels? allow the Hiroko to turn on a dime and its steering wheel is a wide screen LCD panel.

The Hiroko currently has a 75-mile range and seems destined to be put into service in ZipCar-themed programs given the crowded nature of European streets.

Samsung bendy phones10. Smartphones that bend
When fashion and technology meet, good things can happen. Sometimes.

This might be the case with bendy screen smartphones. Samsung has already shown its OLED display technology, which means this tech could be in our hands ??or wrapped around our wrists ??in 2013. It?s likely to be called the Galaxy Skin and will feature everything you expect in a smartphone ??camera, high-res screen and a decent processor.
